Founded in 2019 Walter Walter is a multidisciplinary studio of architects, designers and researchers who question what it means to live in the built environment today. Our work spans residential design, to commercial projects and large scale master plans. All our projects are connected by a deep interest in the practical realities of designing for a sustainable future.

As a studio we explore and design projects to improve our collective future.

Through our design process we produce spaces and objects that are unique, specific and connected to the changing world we live in.

Our major projects include a 6 story building at 82 Westgarth Street in Fitzroy and our AIA award winning House A.

Our architecture starts with looking in detail at the needs of our client. Every project and site is unique and we weave together these needs to create projects of lasting value.

Material consideration is a key part of our design thinking.

We select materials for their environmental, cultural and enduring value. Material selection and how it interacts with the world around it defines our architecture

We approach interior spaces with a consideration of the people that will live in them. Each space we design is unique and tailored to its use.

Interior spaces should support lived life experiences and provide both functional and aesthetic ease.

We recognise the industry’s role in the degradation of the natural environment. Through our work Walter Walter aims to set exemplary standards in sustainable design, continuing to prioritise reuse and designing with durability and future adaptability in mind. As a practice we continually invest in deepening our knowledge and research new technology to better understand the efficiency of structures and materials, and reduce the ecological impact of the construction of our projects and in their operation.

Drawing together diverse voices and experiences, both within design teams and through the design process, we believe facilitates the creation of open and inclusive architecture. The practice encourages critical thinking, rooted in respect and understanding, to foster community focused discussion in the studio.

Walter Walter is committed to seeking expert collaborators, promoting participatory processes and advocating for overlooked communities and narratives to address equity and inclusion both within the profession as well as the wider built environment.
