House in Alphington
Set within a suburban environment yet connected to parkland this site has multiple personalities. It is both open and closed. connected and private, opaque and transparent.
Connection of this house to its context was vital. Through specific and selective openings both within the façade, and in plan, a set of spaces each with its own unique qualities resulted. Courtyards of varying sizes articulate the planning and influence spaces that are adjacent. Allowing spaces to flow from outside to inside and back out again. Continually creating a blurring of boundaries as a person moves from one space to another throughout the house.
